Within easy reach of Oban, the gateway to the islands, Balure is perfectly placed for numerous exciting day trips to the beautiful inner Hebridean Islands. There is also an abundance to see and do locally with Ben Cruachan (1126m) attracting the keen climber, or venture inside the great mountain and experience the astounding engineering work of the hydro-power station. Alternatively, you could have a quick round at the local 9 hole golf course or take a look back to the industrial era with a visit to Bonawe Iron Furnace where the canon balls of Nelson’s Trafalgar were made.

Activities:
Balure is part of the Inverawe Country Park and Fisheries. Guests can enjoy the fly fishing on the park’s 3 stocked lochs at a discounted rate or receive free entrance to the fascinating Smokery Exhibition. There are many walks to enjoy around the unspoilt park and woodlands as well as a tearoom and gourmet shop selling the full range of delicious Inverawe smoke goods. For the beginner or those who want to freshen up on their technique, there is also an Angling School with daily lessons available.
Salmon and Sea Trout fishing is available on the River Awe by arrangement. Visit the town of Inveraray and its great historic Castle, home of the Duke of Argyll. Also see the fascinating and historical Inveraray Jail. Sail by steamer up Loch Awe and visit the picturesque and historical ruins of Kilchurn Castle.
