The spacious kitchen has been fully modernised and includes a large dining table seating 8, Rayburn cooker and stove, slate floors with underfloor heating, Belfast sink and fully fitted units with solid wood work surfaces.
Helmsdale sits at the mouth of the river of the same name which is renowned for its salmon and sea trout. Though the harbour is not as busy nowadays, fishermen still go out for shellfish, crabs and prawns. The riverside and harbour area is a very pleasant stroll and is only a few minutes walk from the house. The small village can easily be reached on foot and has a few small shops and hotels serving food. It is also home to Timespan, the award winning museum which provides an insight into the history of Helmsdale and the surrounding area.

Timespan is situated in the centre of Helmsdale. It comprises an award winning museum, art gallery, story telling room, riverside cafe, shop and riverside garden of Scottish herbs and flowers.
The river Helmsdale is renowned for its salmon and sea trout and in land towards Strath Naver there are ample opportunities for river and loch fishing. There are excellent beaches southwards at Brora, and Golspie where for mountain bike lovers is the award winning Highland Wildcat Trail, established in 2005 and covering 18km of routes of varying degrees of difficulty. Golf is very popular in this area with Helmsdale having its own club and ones in Brora, Golspie and Dornoch a short drive away.
