When you journey down the long, sweeping drive you know you have arrived at somewhere special. And when Cessnock Castle appears into view, once a stronghold of the Campbell Clan and now a beautiful Mansion House, you are not disappointed. Sitting majestically within 30 acres of grounds, this atmospheric home has a real sense of history about it, not surprising since parts of the castle date back to the 1400’s. Said to be visited by Mary Queen of Scots after her defeat at the Battle of Langside and later by the infamous poet Robert Burns, you are following in illustrious footsteps.
Guests at Cessnock Castle occupy the ground floor West wing and benefit from having their own private entrance and enclosed outdoor space, in addition to fabulous views of the lawned grounds. The elegant yet comfortable four bed roomed accommodation sleeps up to eight and is furnished and equipped to a very high standard.
A particular feature is the Mark Wilkinson kitchen, with its handmade cabinets, polished granite worktops and cream coloured Aga, it is the quality of kitchen more likely to be featured in a homes magazine, than to be found in holiday accommodation. Likewise, a Fired Earth bathroom with beautiful slipper bath and exposed stone walls is a real treat and a likely place of sanctuary for guests at the end of a busy day.
Cessnock Castle is ideally placed to offer a truly diverse range of activities. Based within glorious Ayrshire countryside it is excellent for golf, walking and cycling. For a memorable day out catch the ferry to the beautiful Isle of Arran, just 30 minutes drive from the Castle and a 15 minute trip across water. Alternatively, why not visit the cosmopolitan City of Glasgow, again only 30 minutes drive away.
