For mountain bike lovers, just five miles away in Golspie, is the home to the award winning Highland Wildcat Trail, established in 2005 and covering 18km of routes of varying degrees of difficulty.
In the beautiful Brora Countryside and seaside features every imaginable habitat, so a wide variety of our fellow inhabitants can be seen in the wild, as nature intended. Otters can be seen on the River Brora and seals are often on the beach. Loch Fleet, south, between Dornoch and Golspie, forms part of a well known nature reserve with a wealth of sea ducks and waders. Here one may hope to see Osprey fishing.
Places to visit include the Royal Burgh of Dornoch just 14 miles south of Brora . The historic town has many fine buildings including the 13th century cathedral, a bishop’s palace (now the Castle Hotel), courthouse, and old town jail. The Dornoch Jail now offers a superb seletion of unique Scottish gift ideas, jewellery accessories, luxurious cashmere and quality country wear. The ladies in the Jail are charming and well worth a visit. Also, the Castle Hotel does an excellent afternoon tea.
Drive 12 miles north and you reach the pretty fishing village of Helmsdale with its award winning Timespan Heritage Centre. Further north you can visit several other fishing communities on the dramatic Caithness coastline.
A short drive from Brora is Dunrobin Castle which is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses. Carry on to Goslpie to see another pretty fishing village with several gift shops and excellent beaches.
Clynelish Distillery is within walking distance of the house, Balmore in Alness is about 20 miles and Glenmorangie just about 10 miles.
